WV COVID-19 TUESDAY: 864 NEW ACTIVE, 13 NEW DEATHS, CALHOUN/REGIONAL ACTIVE CASES

COVID-19 is raging across America.

There are 400 West Virginians currently hospitalized in the state with COVID-19.

This is according to the daily data released from the state Department of Health and Human Resources. Of those 400, 116 are in intensive care, and 43 are on a ventilator.

Health officials reported 13 COVID-19 deaths over the past 24 hours. The new deaths bring the state’s total to 598 since the pandemic started.

REGIONAL ACTIVE COVID-19 CASES MONDAY: Calhoun 5; Roane 25; Wirt 18; Wood 800; Ritchie 46; Gilmer 100 (most in federal prison); Braxton 26; Clay 20.

An outbreak of Covid 19 is running through the inmate population and staff of the Stevens Correctional Center in McDowell County. According to state officials as of Monday there were 254 inmates and 25 employees who had tested positive for the virus.

On Tuesday, there were 864 new cases, out of a total 35,324. Of all the positive cases, 10,707 were active.

The overall positive test rate moved from 3.27% on Monday to 3.31% Tuesday. The daily positive test rate was 5.72%, which is an increase from 5.31% Monday.
