POLYTICKS ROUGH AND TUMBLE: COMMISSION CANDIDATE ARTHUR SAYS HUR HERALD LYING, CREATING SOAP OPERA

UPDATE 11/15/2020 - In these times, politics are shaped by social media, texting and tweeting, and on the best of days it's pretty messy.

An earlier article on the Hur Herald questioned commission candidate Craig Arthur's (I) behavior, bringing a quick rebuke from him on his Facebook account.

He told his supporters on social media that the Herald was lying, creating a "soap opera" and failing to contact about his request for a recount in his race with Matt Walker (R), the canvas showed Walker won by 44 votes.

The Hur Herald stands behind the content of the story, and has shied away from "soap operas."

The following email was sent to Arthur days before:

11/9/2020 6:42 PM - Public Information Request: A brief statement regarding request for recount, or any other concerns ie election? Thanks. Bob Weaver, Hur Herald

In an earlier election cycle, attempting to confirm if Arthur had filed erroneous complaints against County Commissioner Kevin Helmick, Arthur, in responding to a public information request denied any knowledge of the complaint, or persons operating in his behalf filing a complaint.

"I have no idea what you are talking about," Arthur said.

All the complaints were dropped by the Secretary of State's office.

He further emailed the Herald saying to never contact him again about the matter.

Over the years the Herald has written about the antics of local politicians.

We do not deny Arthur's right to request a recount, and are fully aware that in itself, it is a matter of public information and record.

Further, our goal of reporting on the life and times of Calhoun County continues.
