107 ACTIVE COVID-19 CASES AT GILMER CORRECTIONAL CENTER

Health officials in Gilmer County said there are more than 100 active coronavirus cases at a federal correctional facility in the county. There are 107 active COVID-19 cases at FCI Gilmer, according to the Gilmer County Health Department. There are two active cases in the rest of the county. The health department reported 47 of the cases Wednesday. Gilmer County has had 173 confirmed cases since the pandemic began and no virus-related deaths. The federal correctional facility was at the center of protests earlier this year after more than 100 out-of-state inmates were transferred to the county, including one who tested positive for the coronavirus. The number of positive cases among inmates does not affect Gilmer County’s color on the state’s school re-entry map.
