CALHOUN HAS THIRD NEW CASE COVID-19 THIS WEEK - THURSDAY WV COVID REPORT 402 NEW CASES, VIRUS 'RAGING'

Calhoun has a third new case of COVID-19 this week, according to the WV-DHHR daily report, with cases rising in most regional counties.

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources confirmed 402 new COVID-19 cases and seven additional deaths in its report on Thursday.

The DHHR announced 358 new cases and four deaths on Wednesday.

Nearly 500 new cases were reported Tuesday.

Seven more West Virginians have died from COVID-19, including two from Kanawha and four from Wetzel County, according to the most recent data from the state Department of Health and Human Resources.

The DHHR confirmed the deaths of an 82-year-old woman from Kanawha County, a 70-year-old man from Kanawha County, a 71-year-old woman from Wetzel County, a 73-year-old woman from Wetzel County, a 66-year-old woman from Wetzel County, a 66-year-old woman from Wetzel County and a 74-year-old woman from Berkeley County.

These seven deaths bring the state's death total to 443 since the start of the pandemic.

There are 190 more active cases Thursday, with a total of 4,747 cases currently active.

The DHHR reported that as of Wednesday, there were 238 hospitalizations, with 84 treated in intensive care and 28 on a ventilator.

Three schools in Cabell County reported positive COVID-19 tests Thursday, leading to more than a dozen people being asked to quarantine.

Gov. Mike DeWine said the virus is raging in Ohio, saying there were 3,590 new cases, which is 700 more cases than the previous record.

Kentucky reports third-highest daily COVID-19 case total.

Kanawha County death total at 108.

Daily reports of virus cases in the U.S. have surged to previously unseen heights, averaging more than 75,000 a day over the last week, hitting 9 million.

The state’s cumulative positive test rate was at 2.89%. The daily positive test rate was at 2.97%, which was less than the reported 4.29% in the previous 24-hour period.
