Edward Ray "Dutch" Maze, 83, of Belpre died March 18, 2003 at Arcadia Nursing Center in Coolville.

He was born July 20, 1919, in Annamoriah in Calhoun County, a son of the late Leslie Thomas and Ethel Gay Jones Maze.

His family was the main interest in his life. In addition, he was a lifelong farmer for which he received a Washington County Agricultural Award.

As an active member of Pleasant View United Methodist Church, he taught Sunday school and served as a youth counselor. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army in World War II, receiving several decorations including a Purple Heart for wounds received in action. He retired from Pioneer Casting in Belpre after 27 years of service.

Surviving are three daughters, Carolyn Liston and her husband, Jack, of Belpre, Kay Smeeks and her husband, Gary, of Coolville, and Becky Rowland and her husband, Danny, of Belpre; three sons, Carl Maze and his wife, Jan, of Belpre, Kenny Maze and his wife, Tammy, of Belpre, and Jeff Maze and his wife, Cindy, of Belpre; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two brothers, William H. Maze of Belpre and Robert J. Maze of Texas; two sisters, Elodine Shields of Parkersburg and Olive Phillips of Belpre; and a good friend, Russ Martin of Belpre.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda; one infant brother; and one sister, Delma Wentz.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Leavitt Funeral Home in Belpre with the Rev. David Ellenwood officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Belpre with full military rites by Parkersburg Post 15 of the American Legion. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
