SUNDAY COVID-19: WV REPORTS 194 NEW CASES - Regional Counties Spiking, Calhoun Has One New Case

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases across the planet has surpassed 40 million, but experts say that is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the true impact of the pandemic that has upended life and work around the world.

WV State health officials confirmed another COVID-19 death in West Virginia Sunday morning along with 194 new positive cases, including one new case in Calhoun.

New cases continue to spike in Roane, Gilmer, Clay and Wirt.

Sixteen people asked to quarantine after COVID-19 case at Barboursville Elementary.

Upshur County Schools to remain fully remote after coronavirus cases found among transportation department.

Saturday’s new case total for the U.S. was the second highest for a single day in the pandemic.

Kentucky has reached a record high in cases.

VP Pence has four cases within his staff.

The latest death is a 70-year-old Cabell County man, according to the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources. The state’s death toll from the virus is now 423.

The new positive cases raise the active total in West Virginia to 4,829.

Meanwhile, hospitalizations are at 214 in the state, including 75 in intensive care - both numbers up from Saturday. The number of residents on ventilators remains at 24.
