HEADSHOT - Huntington police said a man is charged after a gun he was handling discharged and struck a 9-year-old child in the head.

Roger Martin Stanley II, 34, is charged with child neglect resulting in injury after a shooting that occurred Sunday on Jackson Avenue, according to a criminal complaint filed in Cabell County Magistrate Court.

Police said Stanley was walking through his home in the 700 block of Jackson Avenue while holding a gun. He was handling the slide of the handgun and activating the laser when the gun went off and fired one round, the criminal complaint said.

The child, Elijah Stanley, was taken to Cabell Huntington Hospital for treatment. The child was in surgery when the warrant was filed on Sunday.

Stanley is currently being held at Western Regional Jail on a $50,000 cash only bond.

PARKERSBURG HOLDUP -Police are searching for a suspect in the Sunday night armed robbery of a convenience store.

Parkersburg Police responded at 11:25 p.m. Sunday to an alarm call at the Par Mar Convenience Store at 720 Division St., according to a release from Police Chief Joe Martin.

An employee reported a white male wearing a COVID facial covering entered the store and brandished a firearm at the worker, demanding they remove cash from the register, the release said. The suspect discharged the firearm while waiting for the clerk to comply, then fled after receiving an undisclosed amount of money.
