WV COVID-19 CASES THURSDAY - 176 New Cases, Four Deaths

West Virginia’s death total related to the coronavirus continued to mount Thursday with another four deaths reported, including one from Kanawha County.

Cases continue to rise in Roane County and Clay.

Cases have been reported in Wood County Schools.

The state Department of Health and Human Resources confirmed in a news release the deaths of 70-year-old woman from Ohio County, a 79-year-old man from Berkeley County, a 61-year-old man from Kanawha County and a 48-year-old woman from Marion County.

West Virginia’s death total associated with the virus is now at 354.

The DHHR said 176 new virus cases were reported in the past 24 hours, with the total number of cases at 16,024. Active cases increased 77 and were at 4,068.

The state’s cumulative positive rate was up slightly at 2.77%, from 2.76% the previous day. The daily positive percentage rate was at 2.67%.

Hospitalizations were up four and were listed at 173, with 57 in intensive care and 34 on a ventilator. Recoveries were up 95 and were at a total of 111,602.

On the state county alert map (latest map colors of Wednesday), three counties were in orange – Kanawha, Boone and Upshur. Kanawha and Boone also were in orange the previous day. Upshur was added to Wednesday’s list after being in gold the previous day. Barbour had been in orange the previous day but moved to gold.

Five counties were in gold in the latest map – Wayne, Lincoln, Harrison, Barbour and Berkeley. Wayne and Lincoln were in gold on the previous day. Wyoming had been in gold the previous day but has moved to yellow. Upshur had been in gold the previous day but has moved to orange.
