GLENVILLE LIBRARY OFFERS DAILY WRITING PROMPTS ONLINE

(09/30/2020)
Gilmer Public Library now offers a daily writing/creativity prompt on the Library’s Facebook page at   facebook.com/gilmerpubliclibrary   The prompts are posted every morning at 6 a.m., so writers and artists can access a new prompt each day no matter what time they sit to create.

For their writing programs, the Gilmer Public Library has three one-gallon jars stuffed writing/creativity prompts (more than 600) relating to three themes. One jar includes prompts “to help you remember.” Another jar includes prompts “to promote gratitude and mindfulness.” The current prompt series online is from the library’s “creative play” jar. These short prompts are designed to spur inspiration for creative expression in any medium and can also be used for meditation practices.

Community members are welcome to incorporate these prompts into their writing, creative, or reflective practices, and if they wish, share photos or excerpts from their creations in the comment section of the prompt’s post.

Gilmer Public Library is home to the Friendly Fonts Writer’s Group, which once met monthly, but has not met in many months. These daily prompts are provided to serve that group as well as other creatives in the community. The group is tentatively planning for in-person meetings again--at some point in 2021. In the meantime, please enjoy our daily prompts.

Gilmer Public Library is funded by the West Virginia Library Commission, Gilmer County levy funds, The Friends of Gilmer Public Library, Inc., and by private donations. If you have any questions concerning library services available to you, please call 304-462-5620.
