WEDNESDAY WV COVID-19 - 120 New Cases, Calhoun Has New Case, Justice's Numbers Questioned

West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources officials reported 120 new COVID-19 cases in the Mountain State Wednesday.

Report indicates Calhoun has at least one new case.

Gov. Justice has allowed the counting of hundreds of students with COVID-19 that are quarantined in one location or dorms to be counted as a single case.

Justice, who has widely modified Harvard Medicals color-coded chart that controls WV school policy and attendance. Harvard epidemiologists have denounced the state's modifications, Justice indicating the state has improved the coding system. (See additional article about WV counting system).

Today's release brings the total count to 14,504.

No counties are in the red Wednesday.

DHHR officials also reported two additional COVID-19 related deaths in the state Wednesday bringing the death count to 319.

The patients were a 91-year old female from Kanawha County and an 80-year old male from Kanawha County.

DHHR officials said 3,464 cases are currently active.

According to data from DHHR, 163 patients are currently hospitalized. 61 patients are in ICU, and 31 patients are on ventilators.
