TUESDAY WV COVID-19 REPORT - 156 New Cases Tuesday, Five Deaths

Fourteen COVID-19-related deaths have been reported in West Virginia during the first two days of the week with another five deaths reported on Tuesday.

The state Department of Health and Human Resources confirmed in a news release the deaths of an 87-year-old man from Logan County, a 93-year-old woman from Mason County, a 66-year-old woman from Mercer County, an 88-year-old woman from Kanawha County and a 91-year-old woman from Kanawha County.

Nine deaths associated with the virus were reported on Monday. West Virginia’s death total from the coronavirus is now at 280.

The state’s cumulative positive test rate continued to climb and was at 2.65%, up from 2.63%. The daily positive test rate was at 4.15%.

DHHR officials reported 156 new virus cases, and the total was at 12,976. Active cases declined 24 and were at 3,160.

Hospitalizations increased by four and were at 155 with 59 in intensive care and 26 on a ventilator. Recoveries increased by 175 and were at 9,536.

Neal Brown announced that the West Virginia football team has two active positive cases of COVID-19 at his weekly press conference on Tuesday.

Randolph County school bus drivers have tested positive for COVID-19.

Sixteen COVID-19 cases in Kanawha County are linked to recent wedding.
