CALHOUN'S COVID-19 CASES UP TO 15 - The Surge Is On

Calhoun County has at least five new cases of COVID-19, now a total 15, reported Saturday.

The county has had the luxury of ignoring COVID-19 with small numbers, but that is likely changing as Fall comes on.

New Roane cases have increased the numbers rather rapidly in the past few days to 36 and Clay to 29, most of the other regional counties remaining stagnant.

Health officials in West Virginia confirmed 252 new cases of the coronavirus Saturday morning as the state’s positive test rate climbed again.

The overall positive test rate moved from 2.46% to 2.49% in the morning update while the daily positive test rate came in at 5.44%, according to the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources.

The active case total in West Virginia is now up to 2,344.

There are currently 154 residents hospitalized with the virus, including 49 in intensive care and 21 on ventilators.

At least 8,516 residents have recovered from the virus.

No new deaths were reported Saturday, keeping the state’s death toll at 243.
