COVID-19 THURSDAY WV REPORT - One Week Record 21 WV Deaths, 93 New Cases

Nine more coronavirus-related deaths were reported Thursday in West Virginia, bringing the week’s total so far to 21.

The state Department of Health and Human Resources confirmed in a news release the deaths of a 93-year old man from Fayette County, an 81-year-old man from Clay County, a 90-year-old woman from Mercer County, a 67-year-old woman from Logan County, a 93-year-old man from Logan County, an 81-year-old woman from Logan County, an 89-year-old man from Monroe County, a 90-year-old man from Monroe County and a 72-year-old woman from Kanawha County.

So far this week, one death was reported Monday, eight deaths Tuesday, three deaths Wednesday and nine deaths on Thursday.

The latest deaths associated with the virus brings West Virginia’s death total to 199.

Meanwhile, the DHHR said 93 new coronavirus cases were reported since Wednesday, bringing the overall total to 9,633. Active cases declined by 61 and were listed at 1,661.

More than 413,000 tests have been conducted and the overall positive test rate remained the same as the previous day and was listed at 2.33%. The daily positive test rate was at 2.75%.

Hospitalizations were up seven and were listed at 146, with 47 in intensive care and 15 on a ventilator. Recoveries increased by 287 and were at 7,773.
