12 UNIVERSITY OF CHARLESTON STUDENTS TEST POSITIVE COVID-19, RETURNING TO SCHOOL

(08/27/2020)
University of Charleston officials say 12 positive COVID-19 tests have been reported after more than 1,600 tests were administered in the return-to-campus plan.

A news release from the university said all 12 positives are from the Charleston campus and no positive tests have been reported from the Beckley campus. Of the positives, 10 are students and two are employees.

The tests were done July 26 through Aug. 16 with a 0.7% positive rate.

Officials said those who tested positive were immediately isolated. Three of the positive students are commuters and isolated at home. Seven are residential students and are isolating in an area set aside for anyone who tests positive while living on campus, the release said.

All students and employees who will be on UC's campus this fall semester are being tested, and this week should conclude the majority of the return-to-campus testing, officials said.
