WV COVID-19 SATURDAY UPDATE - 119 NEW CASES, SIX NEW DEATHS, FIVE IN LOGAN

West Virginia’s death toll due to the coronavirus climbed again Saturday with the addition of six new deaths, five of which were Logan County residents.

The state Department of Health and Human Resources confirmed the deaths of an 84-year old woman from Logan County, an 86-year old woman from Logan County, a 78-year old woman from Logan County, a 72-year old man from Cabell County, a 79-year old woman from Logan County and an 85-year old woman from Logan County in a news release.

Officials also added 119 new cases on the day, but the state’s active total decreased by 54 to 1,702 due to 167 new recoveries. At least 7,307 residents have recovered from the virus.

Hospitalizations also dropped, down eight from the previous day to 138 Saturday morning. There are currently 51 people in intensive care and 23 on ventilators -- both of which are also down from Friday.

The state’s overall positive test rate dropped to from 2.36% to 2.35% in the DHHR’s update while the daily positive test rate came in at 1.68%.
