* John Creel Of Wirt county, West Virginia, returned home Christmas eve with his Christmas presents for his children, of whom he was very fond. He gathered them about him, but in a most unfortunate moment pulled a long-unused pistol, which was believed to be unloaded, out of a drawer. While fingering the weapon one barrel exploded, sending the bullet through the heart of little Edna, his favorite child, killing her instantly. * Mill Boiler Explodes, Five Men and Child Injured in Accident in Wirt County, West Virginia. Parkersburg, W. Va., (Special)- Five men and a child were injured by the explosion of a boiler in the stave mill of Abraham Pearson in Wirt county Saturday. The injured are; Abraham Pearson, owner of the mill, 5year old son of C. M. Allen, Adam Bell, Coe Bell, James Jeffers and Ward Nutter. The cause of the explosion was increasing the heat in the furnace when the boilers were full of water, allowing no room for expansion. * John W. Roberts Fatal Accident in West Virginia - A young man named John W. Roberts, who several years ago, about 1873, was employed in the Progress office, of this place, and who was a brother-in-law of Phil Muller, of West Indiana, met with a sudden death on the 1st inst, in Wit County, West Virginia. He was employed with other men in taking out R. R. ties, having a contract, and the first tree felled caught and crushed the life out of him.
