PM WEDNESDAY: 153 NEW WV COVID-19 CASES - Death Toll Rising

West Virginia added another COVID-19-related death Wednesday afternoon, and the state’s daily positive virus total jumped 153 cases.

The state Department of Health and Human Resources reported that a 74-year-old woman from Mercer County has died from virus-related causes.

On Tuesday, the DHHR reported that two other residents from Mercer County had died from virus associated causes. Gov. Jim Justice said at a news conference Wednesday both of those were residents of a Princeton nursing home. It was not immediately clear if the latest death is linked to the nursing home.

West Virginia has had a total of six coronavirus deaths reported over two days. The state’s death total now stands at 112.

Meanwhile, the state’s total number of positive cases was at 6,326 as of 5 p.m. Wednesday. Active cases declined 22 from the morning report and were listed at 1,625.

Hospitalizations continue to climb and were at 98, with 40 in intensive care and 13 on a ventilator. The DHHR reported a total of 4,589 recoveries.

More than 273,000 tests have been conducted, and the overall positive test rate was at 2.31%. The daily positive test rate was at 2.64%.
