PM THURSDAY: 89 NEW COVID-19 WV CASES

Health officials confirmed another coronavirus-related death in West Virginia Thursday evening.

A 55-year-old woman from Mason County is the state's 103rd resident to die from the virus, according to the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources.

The state added 70 new positive cases in the 5 p.m. update, bring the daily total to 89. There are currently 1,607 active cases in West Virginia.

The daily positive test rate dropped to 2.45% following the evening update while the overall positive test rate remained at 2.21%.

The number of hospitalizations in the state also increased Thursday evening, moving to 88, up from 78 earlier in the day. There are also 38 people currently in intensive care and 16 on ventilators.

The number of West Virginians who have recovered from the virus grew by 142, increasing the total to 3,913.
