PM SUNDAY: 120 NEW WV COVID-19 CASES - 61 WVU Students, 28 Football Players - Thirty Charleston Church Goers

West Virginia added 59 more COVID-19 cases Sunday evening, bringing the state’s daily total to 120.

The state has now had over 5,000 cases.

At WVU, 61 students, including 28 football players, have tested positive, as WV schools are prepping for a return to classes>

Thirty church goers at the North Charleston WV Apostolic Church have tested positive, among other outbreaks around the Mountain State.

A member of a gospel singing group that performed at four churches in Logan County has tested positive for COVID-19.

Grafton-Taylor County Health Departmen says there has been an outbreak of COVID-19 cases linked to a small bible study group. Taylor County has 29 confirmed cases of COVID-19, 13 of which are active.

Meanwhile, the coronavirus rages out of control in about 40 states, including an outbreak of 85 children in Texas, the nation's cases reaching record levels.

The daily positive test rate in WV finished at 3.20%, according to the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources. The overall positive test rate inched up to 2.18% in the 5 p.m. update. There have now been 5,042 total cases in the Mountain State, with 1,569 of those currently active. Of the active cases, 76 people are currently hospitalized, including 32 in intensive care and 15 on ventilators. At least 3,373 West Virginians have recovered from the virus while more than 230,000 tests have been administered. No new coronavirus-related deaths were reported in the state Sunday.
