PM THURSDAY: 100 NEW WV COVID-19 CASES - Outbreaks Appear With Police Departments, Responders, Government Employees. Young Adults

The state Department of Health and Human Resources announced a 99th death in West Virginia associated with COVID-19 Thursday morning.

An 84-year-old Jackson County man died, according to DHHR Secretary Bill Crouch.

This week there have been outbreaks in WV police departments, EMTs, health professionals, medics and courthouses.

It appears that members of the WV House of Delegates, after attending a meeting, are under quarantine, after staff tested positive.

So far in July, West Virginia is seeing an increasing amount of adults ages 18-40 testing positive for COVID-19. Specifically, ages 20-29 made up 23% of the state's new cases from July 6-12. The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Services confirmed 66 new COVID-19 cases in the state in its evening report on Thursday. This brings the day’s new case total to 100.

There have now been 4,591 confirmed cases by the state since the pandemic began. The state now lists active cases at 1,435. There were 564 active cases on July 1.

According to the DHHR, the state’s daily positive test rate for the virus is now 4.07 percent. The overall positive test rate after more than 218,000 tests given is 2.10 percent.
