CALHOUN SOLID WASTE AUTHORITY NEEDS HELP FOR CLEAN COUNTY AWARD

Calhoun County Solid Waste authority has received an application from Travis Cooper from DEP/REAP about a competition for the Clean County Award.

They will announce 1st, 2nd and 3rd place cash prizes at the Annual WVSWA Banquet at State Conference at Glade Springs Oct 19th 2020.

The local CCSWA is looking to acknowledge groups participating in programs August 1st 2019 - July 31st, 2020. There is a point system set up for each of the following:

REAP programs entered; Adopt A Highway, WV Youth Educational Program, WV Make it Shine Program, WV Recycling Program and Pollution Prevention Open Dump Program, and River or stream clean ups.

Optional Programs / Projects include: Their own environmental programs of their own design or agency sponsored programs such as Mountaineer Tree Ways Program, or Operation Wildflower Program, Environmental Education, Earth Day celebrations, Public Land Improvements, River Stream Clean ups.

New Initiatives: Volunteer drives, hiring a Litter Control Officer, launching a county-wide Main Street Beautification Campaign.

There are programs, communities and private families that pick up trash, clean streams, plant flowers, celebrate earth day, contribute to make it shine days.

"We all live in the same county and everyone does things to clean up and improve the county please, let me know. Remember this has been for the past year from August 1, 2019 but we have until July 31, 2020 to get our numbers up."

"If you have a group that wants to participate, Call Cabot Recycling Station. I can furnish gloves, trash bags and grabbers for the clean ups," Cooper concluded.
