Violet Pearle (Cross) Johnson, 95, of Marietta, formerly of Grantsville

Violet Pearle (Cross) Johnson, 95, of Marietta, Ohio (formerly of Grantsville, WV) passed peacefully June 6, 2020.

She was born September 9, 1924 in Wood County, WV, the only daughter to the late Leroy Headley and Edna B. Cross and Walter and Ann Deem.

She graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1942. She was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Mineral Wells, WV and the First Baptist Church of Grantsville, WV. She was an active member of the Calhoun General Hospital Auxiliary and Minnie Hamilton Auxiliary; volunteer for Cancer Society and Red Cross Bloodmobile; and bookkeeper for Grantsville Tire and E & R Tire.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Emmett W. Johnson, sons John Roy (infant), George E. and Larry Rex Johnson all of Grantsville.

She is survived by her son James A. (Martha) Johnson of Grantsville, WV; daughter-in-law Robyn Johnson; grandchildren Angela (Jim) Miller Forbes of Franklinton, NC; Deanna Cottrell of Beaufort, NC; Mandy (Jeff) Johnson-Eastham of Fairfield, Ohio; and Andrew Johnson of Grantsville, WV; step-grandchildren Angie (Joe) Hersman of Grantsville, WV and Greg (Miranda) Collins of Parkersburg, WV; nine great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and sister-in-law Amy Johnson of Mineral Wells, WV.

The family extends their appreciation to Elmcroft of Marietta and Hospice personnel.

Due to social distancing requirements, a family graveside service will be held at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Ron Chesser officiating on June 12, 2020. Stump Funeral Home & Cremation, Inc., Grantsville, WV has been entrusted with the service.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to the First Baptist Church of Grantsville, P.O. Box 237, Grantsville, WV 26147.
