PM FRIDAY UPDATE: 37 NEW WV COVID-19 CASES

West Virginia’s positive COVID-19 total increased by 21 cases Friday afternoon, state health officials said.

President Donald Trump has ordered that the US withdraw from the World Health Organization, which did advise the USA of the pending pandemic in a written statement in January, widely ignored by the Trump administration for months.

All of the inmates who tested positive for COVID-19 at FCI Gilmer have recovered, according to data from the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

No staff members have tested positive at that facility.

Six inmates at the prison had COVID-19.

A morning report says 16 new cases, with a total of 37 cases Friday.

The state Department of Health and Human Resources said in a news release the state had a total of 1,972 positive virus cases as of 5 p.m.

No new deaths were reported, and the death total remained at 74.

Of the positive cases, 1,917 were confirmed and 55 were probable, according to the DHHR’s website.

There have been 1,274 people who have recovered from the virus. Currently, there are 624 active cases.

The latest figures show there are 33 hospitalized, with 14 in the intensive care unit and eight on a ventilator.

More than 93,800 tests have been given. The positive test result rate on Friday afternoon was at 2.1%.
