ONE YEAR AGO: CALHOUN HAS ITS FIRST CASE OF COVID-19 - MHHS Says All Precautions Being Taken |

| 1:15 PM 5/15/2020 - Calhoun has its first official COVID-19 case. The county has been among a handful of West Virginia's 55 counties without a single case. Minnie Hamilton CEO Steve Whited said, "In an effort to maintain transparency with the communities we serve, MHHS is making the public aware of a positive COVID-19 test result of one of our staff." "The test was performed as part of our on-going routine testing protocols that we have enacted to minimize the exposure of our patient population and our staff members," he said. "The employee that tested positive has not worked in a direct patient care role which has limited the exposure to a handful of our employees. Those employees are in the process of receiving additional testing today to ensure no additional exposures." Whited concluded, "We are confident that the safety protocols that we have in place continue to do their job of keeping our community members and staff members safe, and look forward to the results of the additional employee testing to validate them." A MHHC staff physician, Dr. Richard Cain, reported his own COVID-19 case to the public from which he suffered minimal consequences and recovered. In the county-by-county report, Cain's problem was not reported for Calhoun, but in Wood County where he resides. Whited continued to assure residents that every precaution is being taken with staff 24/7. |
