SCIENCE BE DAMNED - Discombobulated Reactions To COVID-19

It has been a discombobulated effort in the USA to handle the COVID-19 pandemic, where the fifty states have been left to handle how do deal with it, even left to compete with each other to get tests, supplies and equipment.

Trump supporters have been left to digest weeks of TV chats that downplayed the virus, then placing the blame for the discombobulated efforts on others, ignoring the nation's scientists to build his case for his re-election.

Trump has continued to tout COVID-19 testing is readily available, when in fact it is not. Less than 2% of US citizens have been tested.

With thousands of cases of COVID-19 in the nation's meat packing houses, while Trump "ordered" the plants to be open.

White House coronavirus task force member Dr. Anthony Fauci urged caution as states begin to reopen from coronavirus shutdowns, warning against "tempting a rebound" in infections by returning too soon.

Fauci suggested that governors only begin to reopen their economies if they see a 14-day decline in new cases.

Gov. Jim Justice has ignored Fauci's recommendation, while Justice made positive efforts to spare West Virginia more desperate outcomes.

While President Trump has been calling for the "reopening of America" for over a month, a number of states have been following their own hunches, some not even following social distancing, focused on getting the economy back on track.

Trump and many governors are glaring examples that politics usurps science, a trend that has been sealed in more recent years in the United States.

Broad testing is essential to combat the virus, in addition to a vaccine.

Governors are given "a lot of leeway" with the guidelines, but it's necessary to adhere to their core principles moving forward, Fauci said.

"You can’t just leap over things and get into a situation where you’re really tempting a rebound, that’s the thing I get concerned about. I hope they don’t do that," said Fauci.
