Robert Russell Harper, 84, of Spencer

Robert Russell Harper, 84, of Spencer, died Sunday, April 5, 2020, at CAMC-Memorial Hospital, Charleston, after an extended illness.

He was born December 10, 1935, at Spencer, the son of the late Robert Madison and Velva McMullen Harper.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Glen Harper and Danny Harper; two sisters, Lucille McCune and Patsy Darden.

Robert was a retired equipment operator. He was also a lifelong resident of Roane County.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Norma Lou Westfall Harper, whom he married September 26, 1953; son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Terrie Harper of Spencer; grandchildren, Rodney (Amy) Harper, Adam Harper and Andrea Harper; great grandson, Dylan Harper; brothers, James, Clemmie, David, Mike and Richard Harper; sisters, Barbara Jarvis, Katie Harper, Betty Rohr, Georgia Wilson and Jackie O'Brien.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be a private graveside service Wednesday, April 8 at the Eventide Cemetery, Spencer, with the Rev. George A. Chandler officiating. When the pandemic is ended, a memorial service will be held at a time and place to be announced.

John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, is handling the arrangements.
