Roy Lee Pursley, 83, of Mt. Zion

Roy Lee Pursley, 83, Mt. Zion, WV was taken on the wings of angels on March 25, 2020 after a brief illness.

Roy was born April 17, 1936 to the late Oral and Velma Summerville Pursley in Roane County, WV.

After graduation Roy served in the Army during the Korean War. He was instrumental in communications in the DMZ.

He worked at Ford Motor Company in Ohio, owned and operated, along with his wife and brother, a long-distance trucking company hauling coast to coast. He owned and operated, along with his wife, Pursley's Furniture and Appliance for many years in Grantsville, WV. He was retired from Department of Highways as Assistant Superintendent with 25 years of service. He also drove bus for Committee on Aging for several years. Roy was an avid hunter who loved being in the woods and hunting with his friends.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brother James Pursley and a special cousin Joan Whisman Satterfield.

Roy is survived his loving wife, Sharon R. Kerby Pursley, whom he married on March 28, 1959; sister Madge Pursley Gainer who resides in Ohio with her daughter, Kathy; special sister-in-law Virginia Pursley; several nieces and nephews, Rodney Parrill, Kathy and Sharon, and Jimmy and Jamie along with close family friends, Jerry and Doris Riggs; Glen, Twila, Amanda and Brian Roach; John, Sami and Nick Abraham; Steve, Chad and Tia Satterfield; and Jim, Brenda and Regina Jones.

Roy and Rose Pursley became family to Nolan and Nancy Ritchie and their children, Melanie Ritchie Arthur and Zeb and Brian Ritchie. A bond was formed that will never be broken. Teri Liles was a special friend and caregiver who lovingly saw to the comforts and necessities of Roy and his wife. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

A private family service will be conducted by Stump Funeral Home & Cremation, Inc., Grantsville, WV. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Interment will be in Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery.
