Rev. Donzel Bennett Wease, 95, of Grantsville

Rev. Donzel Bennett Wease, 95, of Grantsville, WV passed away in the comfort of his home following an extended illness on March 9, 2020.

He was born September 5, 1924 in Calhoun County, WV, a son of the late Dennis J. and Ruth Bennett Wease.

Donzel is a graduate of Calhoun County High School, Coyne Electric School, West Virginia Wesleyan College, and home study course of Westminster Theological Seminary.

He became an ordained Deacon on June 1, 1952. He was an Elder and full member West Virginia Annual Conference of former Methodist Church (now United Methodist Church) since May 13, 1954. He has pastored small churches all over West Virginia. He retired June 1991 following 42 years of pastoring.

He was a member of the organizing committee for the Cooperative Parish. He later served as President of the WV Conference Division. He was a member of the Northeastern Jurisdiction Town and Country Association where he served as Vice-President. He was a member of the WV Conference Division of Missions.

Additionally he served as Coordinator everywhere served and as member of District Council of Ministries. He served as director of Youth Camps on district and state level. He served on WV Conference and National Advisory Board of Church and Community Workers. During WWII he was employed by the Norfolk Naval Shipyards, Portsmouth, VA.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his stepmother Lydia Hayhurst Wease, his wife Emma Gainer Wease, two sisters, Estel Wease an Oleeta M. Doty, a daughter Phelma Jane Wease, and son Dana Alan Wease.

Surviving are son Cleo Wease of Grantsville, Donzel Gainer Wease of Jane Lew, and daughter Ruth Louise Cook of Oceana, WV.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, March 12, 2020 at Stump Funeral Home & Cremation, Inc., Grantsville, WV at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Rick Metheney officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Interment will be in Bethlehem Cemetery.
