CALHOUN DEMOCRATS TO MEET MARCH 28 - County Convention Will Select Delegates

(03/15/2020)
All registered Democrats in Calhoun County are invited to the Democratic County Convention on Saturday, March 28, at 2:00 p.m. in the little courtroom of the Calhoun County courthouse in Grantsville.

The convention was called by the County Democratic Executive Committee chairperson Deirdre Purdy. Every county in the state will hold its county convention on March 28 to elect delegates to the state convention.

The March 28th meeting will also be an organization meeting for the Democratic Executive Committee. A full committee consists of a Democratic man and a woman from all five magisterial districts in the county. Volunteers will be welcomed and elections will be held, if necessary. A secretary and treasurer will be selected.

The meeting will also be an opportunity for Democrats in the county to meet one another and to meet Democratic candidates for local county and state offices. The party has excellent Democratic candidates for governor, United States House of Representatives, United States Senate and President.

This is a good time for Democrats to familiarize themselves with their candidates before the primary and to discuss their choices with other Democrats. An executive committee cannot support any unopposed candidate in the primary, but it can and should provide information on all the party candidates to their voters.

The West Virginia primary will be held on May 12, 2020. The people’s vote for president in the primary will determine how many delegates each presidential candidate receives from West Virginia.

The Democratic state convention will be held in Charleston Friday June 12 through Saturday June 13, 2020 to elect delegates to the national Democratic convention.

At the state convention the county delegates will also approve the Democratic party platform and elect five representatives to the Electoral College. The Democratic national convention will be held July 13 to 16, 2020 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
