George Wesley Talkington, Sr., 99, of Rosedale

George Wesley Talkington, Sr., 99 years old, of Rosedale, WV passed away on March 5, 2020 at Glenville Center.

George was born in Nicut, WV on September 25, 1920 to Harlan and Eugenia Hughes Talkington.

He was preceded in death by his wife of over 60 years, Chessie Fay Talkington (McCumbers).

George was the last remaining of all his siblings.

Survivors include his children, Karen (Edward) Thomas of Newton Falls, Ohio, Helen (Zachary) Brown of Lyburn WV, George Jr. (Susan) Talkington of Brunswick, Ohio, Patsy (Alva) Abel of Cleveland, Ohio, Vicki (James) Miller of Rosedale, WV, Teresa (Keith) Kowalski of Shalersville, Ohio, and Stephen (Sheila) Talkington of Brunswick, Ohio.

George was blessed with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and just recently, a couple of great-great grandchildren. He will be sorely missed by all.

When he was just a young fellow, George served as a Medic in the Army in World War II, a Sergeant in Company C, 7th Medical Battalion in the Pacific Theater from 1942 to 1945. He spent time in the Philippines, US Marshall Islands, Faulkland Islands, Aleutian Islands, and others, ending up in Okinawa, Japan. He received 5 Bronze Stars along with an Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, a Philippine Liberation Ribbon, a Good Conduct Ribbon, and a World War II Victory Medal.

George married his sweetheart, Chessie shortly after his return home. He always was a hard worker, who made sure that his family was well taken care of. George worked as a Coal Miner and many years as a Machinist at White Motors and Cardinal Fasteners. He taught his children to honor, fear, love, and serve God. He has been described as "a friend that a friend would love to have."

The children wish to thank The Clarksburg VA Home Care Program, The Burnsville Hospice ladies of West Virginia Caring, and Glenville Center Nursing Home for taking such good care of their Dad. And thanks extended to special family friends who have been so helpful also; Chrissy Mullens, Yada and Justin Rexroad, Benny and Evelyn Miller, Richie Siers. Thank you all so much.

James Miller, thank you for your sacrifices in taking good care of our Dad as if he was your own during his last few years. Goodnight Dad, we love you.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 14, 2020 at Stump Funeral Home & Cremation, Inc., Arnoldsburg, WV at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Bayard Glen Rader officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service. Interment will be in Beech Grove Cemetery.
