WV STATE POLICE ARREST CLAY SUSPECT FOR MURDER

West Virginia State Police said a suspect in a fatal shooting in Clay County has been taken into custody.

Gary Wayne Moore, 48, of Lizemores had been sought in the shooting death of James Stone, 47, of Lizemores.

He is in Central Regional Jail, charged with first degree murder.

CLAY COUNTY, WV UPDATED, 9:54 a.m. 2/24/20

West Virginia State Police identified the suspect they are seeking and the victim in a fatal shooting in Clay County.

State Police said they are looking for Gary Wayne Moore, 48, of Lizemores in the shooting death of James Stone, 47, of Lizemores, according to an incident report.

The report said Moore arrived about 9 p.m. Sunday at Stone’s home on Hubbard Lane in Lizemores. Moore and Stone got into an argument that led to a physical altercation, State Police said.

Moore left the home and gained access to a firearm in his vehicle, the report said. Moore returned toward the home and was met by Stone on the front porch. Moore fired at Stone, hitting him in the chest, State Police said.

Stone died at the scene.

The suspect fled in a green 2005 Chevrolet Silverado with West Virginia registration 3XY653.

State Police said Moore should be considered armed and dangerous.
