Richard A. “Rick” Batten, 52, of Spencer, West Virginia, passed away on Thursday, February 13, 2020 at the Roane General Hospital in Spencer. He was born March 4, 1967 in Jackson County, a son of the late Robert F. Batten and Sybil (Sadie) Batten Toothman. He was employed by Elk Energy Services. He is survived by his wife Anna Hersman Batten; a daughter, Leigh Anne Batten (Derek Wood) of Calhoun County; a son, Ethan Batten (Chania) of Spencer; two grandchildren, Ryker and Jovi Batten; sisters, Shirley Norman, Sandy Hall and Janet Golden; brothers, Bud Batten and Ronnie Batten; brother-in-law, Bob Golden; sisters-in-law, Virginia (Ginny) Batten and Patricia Batten; and his mother-in-law, Patsy Hersman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Robert L. Toothman; brothers-in-law, Bob Hall and P.J. Norman; and father-in-law, Roy Hersman.
