Joe Allen Starcher, 88, of Spencer

Joe Allen Starcher, 88, of Spencer, passed away Saturday, February 1, 2020 at Roane General Hospital, Spencer.

He was born March 11, 1931 at Spencer, the son of the late William Jennings and Grace D. Goodwin Starcher.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Barbara Ellen Dodd Starcher, whom he married August 10, 1952 at Spencer; children, William Jennings "Jay" Starcher of Spencer, Deborah Ann Dye also of Spencer and Joe Allen "Joey" Starcher, Jr. of Ripley; ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Joe was a 1949 graduate of Spencer High School, where he was an All-Star athlete in two sports, basketball and baseball. Also, he was a 1953 graduate of West Virginia University, where he lettered as short stop for the baseball team. He was an avid golfer, who enjoyed spending time with his many friends at the Roane County Country Club.

He owned and operated Starcher Motors, a GM dealership, for 50 years. Joe was an Army veteran and a member of St. John's United Methodist Church.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 5 at John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with Pastor Carl Tribett officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be in Eventide Cemetery, Spencer. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the funeral on Wednesday.
