LEGISLATIVE BILL HONORS DECEASED FOOTBALL PLAYER MILLER - Would Require Defibrilator Be At Football Games

A bill introduced Thursday in the West Virginia Legislature is designed to honor the memory of a Roane County high school football player who died during a football game. House Bill 4497, also known as the Alex Miller Law, would require an automated external defibrillator device be present at all high school or middle school athletic events. The law would also require all school sports personnel be trained in the use of the defibrillator. Miller collapsed suddenly and died during a 2019 football game between Roane County High School and Clay County High School. After Miller’s passing high school team’s from around the state showed their support. Another House bill introduced on Jan. 13 would require the West Virginia Board of Education provide a full-time trainer for every public school that participates in sports. House Bill 4105 would also require the trainer be in attendance at every sporting event for the school.
