It's been a rough week for Duane Poling.

Duane had open heart surgery last week, sooner than he expected, having a major valve replaced at Charleston Area Medical Center.

The otherwise successful surgery resulted in some serious complications, and the Phillip's Run resident spent the past several days in intensive care.

Thursday was turn-around day for Duane, whose wife Willadene has been at his side.

The signal, according to JoAnn and Bill Stevens, was when his doctor said he could have anything he wanted to eat, he ordered biscuits and gravy... Bob Evans, not the hospital kind. They went out and obtained the special order.

Duane, a deacon and longtime Sunday School teacher at the Mount Zion United Methodist Church, has been the subject of hundreds of prayers offered by his many friends.

The community looks forward to his return home.
