CALHOUN MAN RESCUING CLAY HORSE

(01/11/2020)
People in Clay County are coming together to take care of a horse that was found undernourished last month.

David Carpenter said he found the horse near the foundation of a flooded house along the Elk River without food or water.

The Calhoun County man has been feeding the horse hay and grain since then.

“I don't know if it’s been abandoned or not, but she's obviously not been taken good care of until I found her,” Carpenter said.

There are numerous places the horse could have injured itself there, including falling through a floor, Carpenter said. Carpenter said authorities have not been responsive to his request for help.

Clay County Sheriff Donny Triplett said Thursday he will check the animal himself to determine if anything needs to be done.

The Heart of Phoenix Rescue has offered help if local officials want it.
