FOUR YEARS TO ADDRESS SCAMMING

A new federal law is aimed at addressing the vast number of robocalls has passed, but don't expect relief anytime soon.

President Donald Trump signed the Pallone-Thune Telephone Robocall Abuse Criminal Enforcement and Deterrence Act on Monday.

The statute authorizes the Federal Communications Commission to issue additional penalties and push for authentication. The agency and the Federal Trade Commission also has four years to address scammers.

The measure received overwhelming approval in the U.S. House of Representatives, who passed it in a 417-3 vote in early December. The Senate approved the bill through a voice vote.
