THE DARKEST DAY OF THE YEAR

(12/21/2020)
December 21 is the first official day of winter, but also the annual "Winter Solstice," meaning it will be the shortest amount the sun will shine all year.

Many early civilizations acknowledged the solstice.

An ancient Persian festival, like many winter solstice holidays, celebrated the end of shorter days and the victory of light over darkness.

Meaning “birth,” Yalda is marked by family gatherings, candles (originally, fires lit all night), poetry readings, and a feast to get through the longest night of the year.

Light will now be returning to planet earth.
