MASON OFFICER SHOT - A Mason County sheriff's deputy was shot in the line of duty early Sunday morning, according to West Virginia Sheriffs' Association Executive Director Rodney Miller.

It happened around 4:15 a.m. at a home along the 1300 block of Whitten Ridge Road, according to emergency officials.

Investigators say there had been a call that an 81-year-old man shot his caretaker, a female. When deputies entered the home, a deputy was shot in the face.

The deputy was taken to Cabell Huntington Hospital and then later transferred to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. His name or condition has not been released.

The investigation is now being handled by West Virginia State Police. State police said they did not have the name of the suspect involved in the shooting ready for release, as of Sunday afternoon.

HUNTINGTON STABBING - One man has been taken to the hospital following a stabbing in Huntington.

Emergency dispatch officials say a man reported that he had been stabbed in an apartment on Doulton Avenue between 18th Street and 19th Street. The incident happened around 3:40 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

Captain Ray Cornwell of the Huntington Police Department said the victim was stabbed in the lower back, but the injuries do not appear to be life-threatening at this time.
