CALHOUN PROSECUTOR OBTAINS GRANT FOR SCHOOL PROJECTS - Calming Corners Now In Both Elementary Schools

(11/17/2019)

Calhoun County Schools wish thank Calhoun County Prosecutor Shannon Johnson for her work in obtaining a grant for calming corners at both Elementary schools. She collaborated with part of our Student Services Team, Dwanetta Martin, Loretta Smith, and Amy Cottrell, to design the space. They spent many hours making this project happen.

A special thanks to PACF for the grant and for Shannon's work in coming to the schools to help put everything together. These calming corners will be used by the students as a space for working on their self-regulation and coping skills. If they are overwhelmed, frustrated, or overstimulated in the classroom or a large group setting, this is a quiet space in which they can calm down and manage negative feelings.

Calming corners have shown positive benefits for children and we hope our students enjoy this new addition to their schools.
