POLICE APPREHEND MAN WHO FLEES INTO CLAY COUNTY

The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office said a man who was sought after leading police on a multi-county pursuit is in custody.

George "Speedy" Legg, 54, was taken into custody about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday by Smithers police and Fayette County deputies at a home in Smithers without incident.

Multiple police agencies were searching for Legg after leading officers on a multi-county pursuit Tuesday afternoon from Cedar Grove in Kanawha County to the Lizemore area of Clay County.

Deputies said Legg's vehicle was found abandoned on Independence Road off of Route 16 in Clay County. The pursuit started around 2:30 p.m. in Cedar Grove.

Legg was on parole with full extradition. Deputies said Legg was wanted on numerous warrants including being prohibited person with a gun.
