JUMPIN' TIME AT BRIDGE DAY SATURDAY

(10/19/2019)
Things will be jumping in Fayette County this weekend when brave souls leap from the New River Gorge Bridge as thousands of spectators pack in to watch.

Bridge Day 2019 is set for Saturday, Oct. 19, with a host of activities planned for the event that features several hundred BASE jumpers and rappelers taking the 876-foot plunge off a bridge platform, according to event organizers.

Activities kick off 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday with a Taste of Bridge Day, an annual food and music celebration at Smokey’s on Ames Heights Road.

Route 19 and the bridge closes at 7 a.m. Saturday, with Bridge Day events opening to the public 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Bridge Day Route 19 event closes to the public at 3 p.m. Saturday, but the fun continues in downtown Fayetteville, where a chili cook-off and craft beer fest are planned.

Organizers said the best way to get to the bridge on Bridge Day is to take one of the shuttles. Visitors can park their car for $3 and get dropped off at the Bridge Day entrance.
