THREATENED SCHOOL SHOOTING - A female suspect is in custody after a note was reportedly left on a teacher’s desk at Woodrow Wilson High School, Beckley, threatening to shoot up the school.

Madison Ewing, 18, is being charged with making terroristic threats.

Security was increased at the high school after a note was found that claimed seven people were going to shoot up the school at 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Woodrow Wilson High School remained open.

TEACHER RESIGNS AFTER BRINGING GUN TO SCHOOL - A West Virginia teacher charged with bringing a loaded gun to school has resigned from her job.

Officials at the Nicholas County Board of Education said Shana Knight, 34, resigned Monday from Cherry River Elementary School.

Knight was arrested earlier this month and charged with possessing a deadly weapon at an educational facility. Authorities said the gun was a loaded Smith & Wesson .38-caliber revolver but have not released a possible motive or said specifically where the gun was on school property.

State law prohibits firearms on any primary or secondary educational facility, unless the school is private and has a written policy allowing firearms.

The WV Legislature has passed NRA measures that allow guns on some school and recreational property, while lobbying efforts have been made to allow school teachers and school personnel to carry a gun.
