WOMAN WIELDS SWORD - McDowell County deputies said a woman faces charges after a domestic incident that reportedly involved a large sword and an attempt to set a porch on fire. Lisa Louise Turpin, 40, of Avondale is accused of trying to set a neighbor’s porch on fire, according to a news release from the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office. The sheriff’s office said the victim was flown by helicopter to Pikeville, Ky., for medical treatment. No condition was immediately available. Deputies responded about 6 p.m. Monday to the Mile Branch area for the domestic dispute. Turpin was charged with second-degree arson, third-degree arson, attempted murder and malicious wounding. She was arraigned before Magistrate Steve Cox and a $25,000 cash only bond was set. WOMAN SHOOTS MAN ATTACKING SISTER - Kanawha County deputies said initial reports indicate a man who was attacking his wife during a domestic incident was shot to death by his wife’s sister. Metro 911 said the incident occurred about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday on Shadywood Lane in the Browns Creek area near St. Albans. Sgt. Brian Humphreys, spokesman for the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office, said the man apparently had been attacking his wife. The wife’s sister grabbed a firearm and shot the man. The sister who shot the man called 911. Deputies arrived at the scene and were followed by an ambulance from the Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority, a news release from the sheriff's office said. Medics pronounced the man dead at the scene. The others present at the scene remained there and cooperated with investigators. Detectives will collect evidence to compare with witness statements. No arrests have been made. HUNTINGTON SHOOTING - Huntington Police said one person was injured in a shooting Tuesday. Police said there was an argument between a group of people and it ended in gunfire. Jovan Carpenter suffered a gunshot wound to the thigh and was taken to the hospital by friends, police said. Police said they have identified a suspect and hope to make an arrest later Tuesday.
