It's the real deal, the 60th Mt. Zion Ox Roast - pit-roasted beef slowly cooked in an earthen pit for hours, to be served in scrumptious, mouth-watering dinners or sandwiches.

The event kicks off Saturday at the Mt. Zion Community Park at 11 a.m. through 5 p.m.

Fit for a king, a pit-roasted beef sandwich with baked beans, cole slaw, tomato, cake and drink for $8, or a pit-roasted beef sandwich for $5. Enjoy on premise of take out.

A "County Fair" with exhibits and produce, pies, canned goods, and crafts, with local non-food vendors. An auction will be held at 5 p.m.

. Gospel music provided by David Bowen.

The park was created by the Community Action Program in 1959. Pastor David Weaver, who has been the pitmaster for many years, said he has been to them all.

The park has been a welcoming presence in the community, the site of hundreds of reunions, events and special occasions these past 60 years.

Last years roast raised funds for a new entrance and the laying of a gasline.

Community members are urged to donate cookies, pies, cakes, and bread for the auction.
