WOMAN DEAD IN PUTNAM — Deputies said a woman is dead an a man is in serious condition after a murder-attempted suicide in the Liberty area of Putnam County.

Around 6:40 a.m. Sunday, a man called 911 from a home on Sulug Road and said he throught his father had shot his mother, according to Putnam County Chief Deputy Eric Hayzlett.

Hayzlett said when deputies arrived on scene they found a woman dead and a man with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the abdomen.

The man was flown to Charleston where he underwent surgery and is in serious condition but is expected to live.

Hayzlett said he will be charged with first-degree murder.

No names have been released at this time.

HUNTINGTON SHOOTING - Huntington Police have released more details about the shooting that occurred on the 1400 block of 4th Avenue Sunday morning.

They say there was an argument between two groups at the Hot Corner Bar and eventually the groups went outside. Later, the argument escalated to the point where one person was shot.

The victim was taken by a friend in the direction of the hospital but police tracked the vehicle and had an ambulance take the victim.

Police are not releasing any details about the victim at this time but do say they are in critical condition.
