Two Grantsville residents are facing multiple charges related to a fraudulent check cashing scheme.

Joseph Clayton Southers, 43 (right), was charged by Trooper First Class Brian Young with fraudulent schemes, forgery or uttering and conspiracy.

A woman, identified as Souther's girlfriend, Chasity Nicole Bell, 34 (photo unavailable) is facing identical charges.

The criminal complaint alleges that Southers and Bell enlisted Kathleen Cervone to obtain cash from a $3,519.76 check from the Spokane Teachers Union, Cervone gave the couple $500 and $3000 from her personal account at Calhoun Banks.

The Calhoun Bank had initially declined to cash the check, and later discovered the check was a fraud.

The complaint indicates at one point in time Southers and Bell tells the victim they would "make it right," but did not.

Also involved in the complaint was an attempt to cash another check for the same amount $3,519.75 from the Adirondack Trust Company at another branch of Calhoun Banks, who indicated it was also fraudulent.

Sentenced in Clay County to Central Regional Jail, Jeremy Scott Burrows, 41, for obstructing and no insurance.

A Calhoun woman Jennifer Ann Meadows, 38, was arrested on a capias warrant Thursday and incarcerated in Central Regional Jail.
