MAN KILLS GRANDSON - Kanawha County deputies have released the names of a 19-year-old who they said was fatally shot by his grandfather during a fight between the two on Sparrow Lane in the Elkview area.

Griffin Lipscomb was killed about 7 a.m. Monday during a disturbance with his grandfather, Richard Lipscomb, 78, of Elkview, according to a news release from the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office.

The grandfather called 911 and described a fight with his grandson, the news release said. A disturbance could be heard on the phone call with dispatchers. During the call, the grandfather shot his grandson, killing him.

Both lived at the house where the shooting occurred. Others also were present. The grandfather said he fired the gun in self-defense.

Deputies said the grandfather and others were interviewed Monday morning. Evidence has been collected and will need further examination. The state Medical Examiner’s Office is assisting with the investigation and will conduct an autopsy.

When the investigation concludes, the Kanawha County Prosecutor’s Office will review it and make decisions regarding criminal charges.

No one is in custody or facing charges at this time.

CHARLESTON MURDER - A person has died after an overnight shooting in Charleston.

Police tell us the victim was shot in the 1400 block of Bigley Avenue and Ash Street just before 1 a.m. Monday.

The victim, Adam Swim, died from an apparent gunshot wound to the head. There is no word on any suspects at this time, and the homicide investigation is still ongoing.

THREATENS TO KILL - A Flemington man is being charged with domestic violence after allegedly threatening to kill a woman for taking his child.

According to the criminal complaint officers responded to a domestic in progress call. A woman met officers who said David Thomas Hays Jr. made threats against her with a fire arm.

Deputies searched the home to see if Hayes was still inside. They didn’t find him but they did find the guns that the woman described and secured them as evidence.

The woman said that Hays made threats to kill her for taking his child. While she was using the phone she says that Hays came down the stairs with a rifle. The woman was told she should leave the home until officers arrived.

During that time Hays jumped from the second story window and left the area.
