ARNOLDSBURG SCHOOL PLAYGROUND CLOSED DUE TO OVERHEAD ELECTRIC WIRE

(05/23/2019)
A problem has surfaced regarding the location of the Arnoldsburg Elementary School playground being located under high voltage power lines, access lines to the school.

Principal Charles Thomas said the playground area has been roped off in the 60 foot wide right-of-way, and the school has already started working on plans to solve the problem.

The school was notified by Mon Power that the line location could be a safety risk.

The WV School Building Authority and the architect advised the school that the responsibility for moving the lines would be the responsibility of the school.

Being added to the playground is a ballfield and picnic shelter, said principal Thomas, indicating the school had about $130,000 in the playground.

Thomas said the relocation of the lines will cost $28,894, pulling $14,000 from a grant, the PTO agreeing to pay $10,000, and the final $4,894 will be taken from the playground fund.

"We are hoping that the line relocation will happen after school is out and before summer school begins," said Thomas, who indicated the good news being that the playground area will be improved with the new additions.
