WELFARE OF ANIMALS GROUP [WAG] LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS

(05/06/2019)
The local non-profit Welfare of Animals Group (WAG) has been offering low-cost spay/neuter services to Calhoun County residents since 2016, and in 2018 began spaying/neutering community feral cats with their Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program.

So far they have spayed/neutered 579 animals (316 pets/strays and 263 community feral cats). Together we can continue to make a big difference for the animals in the county.

The organization is run entirely by volunteers, the group would greatly appreciate your help – in many different areas. They have something to fit everyone’s interest and available time. Many hands make lighter work. If you have an hour or two a month and sitting in planning meetings does not sound fun, the group could use your help with:

• door-to-door postcard notifications before trap days
• loading and unloading trapped cats, cleaning and disinfecting live traps
• transportation of trapped cats to and from vet for spay/neuter surgeries
• writing seasonal articles for the newspaper
• distributing flyers in the county
• donation of homemade baked goods/snacks for fundraisers
• volunteering at fundraisers
• phone interviewing clients, scheduling monthly certificate and surgery appointments
• loan once a month of an enclosed livestock trailer with a standard bumper hitch.

The group would appreciate donations of dry pet food (can be dropped off at the Calhoun County library) There is also donation boxes located in businesses around the county, and a PayPal donation button on their website www.calhounwag.org

If you would like to find out more about the organization or would like to volunteer, please call Linda at 304-354-7506.

Wouldn’t it be amazing if Calhoun County could be the first county in West Virginia to solve the unwanted and abandoned animals problems? We are a small county – we can do this!
